Reunion Weekend Worship

The Very Rev. Heather VanDeventer '94 will be our guest alumni preacher for the first Yale Reunion Weekend.  Rev. VanDeventer is Dean of St. John’s Cathedral (Episcopal) in Spokane, Washington. Dean Heather came to the Cathedral in August 2018 after serving for seven years as associate rector at Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia. A graduate of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, over the course of 21 years of ministry she also has served in Wilmette, Illinois, as part-time chaplain at Episcopal High School, Alexandria, and also as full-time Mom in the San Francisco area. Heather is married to the Rev. Dr. David Gortner and their teenagers are Cassie and Jordan. Heather sees the Inland Northwest in similar ways to the Pacific Northwest (coast) – a good place for coffee, exploring the beauty of creation, and a great mission field for progressive Christianity and the Way of Love in a place where the “nones” have the highest share. A graduate of Yale University in 1994, Ezra Stiles, Heather is proud that she can use what she learned in her medieval history and religious studies classes, as well as the lessons learned on the intramural fields, in her work and call.
